I’m New

St. John's Church is....

Welcome to St. John’s Church!

We are a parish within the Diocese of New York of The Episcopal Church and proudly part of the global Anglican Communion.

Our community is diverse and inclusive, welcoming people of all ages, backgrounds, orientations, and beliefs—long-time members and new families alike.

We value connection and fellowship, inviting everyone on a spiritual journey to join us as we strive to be our best selves and integrate our faith into our daily lives and community.

Our worship follows the Episcopal tradition, drawing from The Book of Common Prayer.

We engage with the Holy Scriptures and sing from Hymnal 1982.

Our theology embraces grace, as we seek to embody our identities as beloved children of God and share His love with one another and the world. We believe in the inherent dignity and belonging of every person, recognizing that everyone is on their own spiritual journey.

We invite you to embark on a journey of discovering the One who created us, experiencing transformation through the One who loves us, and walking each day with the One who lives within us and is for us. May God bless you wherever you may be on your path.

Dressing up in formal attire can be very uncomfortable, especially in the summer.

Please, be comfortable. You will see slacks and shorts, skirts and dresses, jeans and t-shirts, and some love to wear their Sunday Best!

Jesus is delighted that you here. He doesn’t care what you wear.

All children are welcome to attend worship with their parents.

We have a special children’s nook in the back that has toys and books for them if are inspired to play.

We take delight in the sounds of children.

Our worship service is designed to be engaging and participatory, creating a welcoming space where everyone can feel comfortable—no one is ever put on the spot. We gather for lessons, reflections, sermons, and readings that nourish our minds and spirits.

Together, we pray for the healing of our world, inspired by our shared calling to glorify God and to serve with mercy, peace, and justice. We invite you to join us in Holy Communion, which is open to all. As we share in this sacred meal, we celebrate Jesus’ gift of Himself—His love made flesh—offered to all of us as living members of His body on earth. Everyone is truly welcome at this table.

Over time, the familiar rhythm of our worship becomes a source of comfort and strength, helping us deepen our encounter with God and guiding us to live out our faith with hope and purpose in everyday life.

As a guest, you may certainly give, but it is not expected.

Should you decide to make St. John’s  your home, we appreciate your contribution in whatever form you are able to give.

We know that these are challenging times for many people.  Sometimes, you just need a safe place to be and to feel the support of your community.

It is the custom in our church that wherever you are on your faith journey, you are welcome to receive communion.

It does not matter how old or young you are, what church you come from, what your denominational status is- if you wish to receive our Lord Jesus Christ, He invites you!

If you wish to participate without receiving communion, you can cross your arms over your chest and a blessing will be offered for you.

In addition to the more usual fortified wine (port) we do also offer as an alternative, grape juice at all services as well as gluten-free host.

Participation in the service is always entirely your choice. You are welcome to take an active role if you feel comfortable, but there’s no obligation—what matters most is that you feel free to be yourself.

After the service, please join us for coffee hour, where you can enjoy sweet snacks, hot drinks, and the opportunity to meet some of our church members in a relaxed setting. If you’d like, you can also fill out a card to introduce yourself—it’s a simple way to connect.

Our hope is that you feel truly welcome and comfortable, exactly as you are, and that you find a community where you can belong and grow in faith at your own pace.
